Beginner to Intermediate LevelsCapture a picturesque winter’s day, as Cindy leads you through the basics of acrylic painting. Along with colour usage and mixing and brush stroke/techniques exercises, you will learn how to capture a sparkling winter scene. Design and photo reference for 8 x 10” or 9 x 12" canvases will be supplied. The workshop runs 5.5 hours so please bring a bag lunch.
YOU WILL NEED TO BRING: (please also bring any additional supplies you have)
1 or more 8 x 10” or 9 X 12" stretched and gessoed canvases or canvas boards (or any size you wish to work in).
Palette or white plates to mix paint on (to keep your acrylic palette from drying out you will need a large airtight plastic container that your palette fits into).
Water containers
Spray bottle (fine mist)
Pencil and eraser
Graphite transfer paper (some will be available from the instructor)
Paper towels, absorbent rags or clothes and or sponges
Plastic table cover or newspaper (optional)
BRUSHES: Bring all brushes you have available – I use a variety of watercolour, acrylic and oil brushes
OR: One 1” flat soft brush
1 - 2 Round or ¼ - ½” flat bristle brushes

PAINT: I use Golden Heavy Body Acrylics which are a professional grade of paint. There are many types of acrylic paints available so the choice is yours. Quality and lightfastness are factors that will affect the price you pay. Liquitex Artist Colour is a cheaper alternative to Golden with reasonable quality. Grumbacher Academy or Liquitex Basics are good student brands.
BASIC COLORS: (these are Golden Colours and some brands may have other names so ask store staff to help you to select a similar colour choice)

We will explore with Joyce different collage techniques. Altering the surfaces using acrylics, mediums and stamping materials,we will explore a variety of ways to create a cache of paper for our mixed media pieces. This fresh pallet will almost be a creation on art in itself. We will be touching on the use of pastes, adding our own photos or fabrics and at what point in the collage they can be added. In the afternoon we will be painting on top of our collage and then the finishing
touches. Students will use their own references or the demonstration material. Bringsomething you can do on a 9 X 12 canvas.

plus your own favorites and white. (burnt orange, yellow, ultramarine blue, cadmium red.)

Brushes- can be dollar store brushes: ¾” flat, #6 round, small detail brush.
Stamping materials: Don’t worry about getting all the items--these are suggestions:
Elastics, old toothbrush, bubble wrap, old rolling pin, lace, burlap, buttons,
Bath sponges, cheese cloth, adhesive foam pieces from dollar store, large
Leaves, anything that will make an imprint; rubber stamps.
The usual stuff: hair dryer, palette knives, paper towels, ruler, sissors, pencil, palette,
Spray water bottle, tub for water.

If it is raining or bad weather we have a choice of painting @ the Greenhouse (DeHerdt's) or at the Gallery.
Will meet @ gallery (especially first day May 25/18 could be a little early to meet and greet , car pool, and do fees, contact #s, etc)

There is a set fee for all 6 classes. Regardless of number of classes attended the fee is as follows:

Spirit Stick Workshop
FRIDAY MAY 11, 2018
Supplies Needed:
- A stick that is between 5 to 5.5 feet high, approximately 2 - 2 ½” diameter; must be sanded smooth, cleaned and primed. (Instructor will supply these sticks).
- Acrylic Paints - can be any type; bright color high staining paints and opaque paints work best.
- ½” brush angled or straight, smaller brushes - round; liner brush for fine lines.
- Polyester medium (gloss or matte) is recommended.
- Optional: embellishments such as, fabric, wool, string, colored papers, Pre-painted and gelli print papers etc, ribbons etc
- Scissors and small ruler.
Pay for the instructor:
- For primed-only sticks $10.00 each
- For primed and pre-underpainted sticks $20.00 each
- No charge for the class; A $20.00 donation per participant to go to club fundraising.
